Knowledge of Parents on the Causes and Consequences of Child Abuse and Neglects

Background to the Study

child abuse:The protection, promotion and full enjoyment of human rights is one of the most important aspirations of today’s world. These rights give humanity its very value and therefore must be guaranteed Women’s Aid Collective, (2002).

UNICEF (2009) added that, such rights particularly the right of children can only be guaranteed if we have learned to respect them. Therefore, the human rights of children must become integral part of our education, our culture and our development. UNICEF believed that this when done, will help to increase the level of awareness among the masses of knowledge and consequences of child abuse and its legal provision as it affects children. This might not be the case as Ode (1996) stated that children all over the world are subjected to severe inhuman treatments simply because they are helpless.
